Description
Branching burrows are characterized by a vertically to horizontally oriented shaft or tunnel that splits into two or more distinct shafts and tunnels. The shafts and tunnels may have an elliptical to circular cross section and are straight to sinuous. Portions of the tunnels may be enlarged into chambers at multiple points along their length. Frequently, branching burrows are modified to form complex burrow architectures such as mazeworks. Branching burrows are used as permanent dwellings.
