Description
Helical burrows are characterized by a single surface opening leading to a subvertically oriented (80-10 degrees) tunnel which spirals downward symmetrically to asymmetrically around a vertical axis. The inclination of the tunnel may vary along its length. The tunnel may have an elliptical to circular cross section. The lower portion of the tunnel may be expanded into a chamber. Helical burrows are used as permanent dwellings.
